“The Lonesome Pine” (2026) | Concertino for bassoon and chamber orchestra ~11’
“The Lonesome Pine” is a suite of three movements - prelude, siciliano, & rondeau - for solo bassoon and chamber orchestra. Serving as the voice of a lone tree, the solitary bassoon takes the lead in this intimate piece, as the accompanying orchestra speaks for the land and life forms surrounding it. As I was writing this piece, I envisioned a single pine tree looking out over a cliff, while the forest keeps its distance behind, fearful of the drop. The pine tree is able to observe the waves below, the sky above, and the woods behind it, as well as the lives housed by each habitat.
