mans asked me this after I was musing on wanting to write a piece for reed quintet. Honestly, I don’t have a better answer as to why I picked this instrumentation, so I almost titled it “Called by the Reeds”. It was May 2025 and there were crazy summer storms already sweeping through the city. Winds, torrential rain, thunder, lighting, H A I L - it was wild. At that point I’d decided the title and conceit of what I was going to write.
