“Whippoorwill Winter” (2026) | Miniature for flute and clarinet ~1’50”
“Whippoorwill Winter” is one of many “little winters” observed by Tennessee’s Historical Society. This season occurs between mid to late May, when whippoorwills can first be heard calling before dawn. I wanted to emulate the call of the whippoorwill with the flute’s main motive, while the clarinet accents the downbeats, and mimics the call later on in the piece.
